MINOT, N.D. — The North Dakota Air National Guard recently named Airmen Staff Sgt. Jessica Harper and Staff Sgt. Sarah Harper, as Family of the Year during a ceremony at Minot Air Force Base on July 17.

Both Airmen are assigned to the 219th Security Forces Squadron. Based at Minot Air Force Based This unit is a part of the Fargo-based 119th Wing, nicknamed the “Happy Hooligans”. They earned this recognition for their volunteer and morale-building efforts within the 219th Security Forces Squadron over the past year, as well as their contributions within the local community. Both are heavily involved in supporting animal rescue and serve as volunteer coaches for area youth sports.

A North Dakota Army National Guard unit has received an alert for possible mobilization. If ordered to mobilize, the Bismarck-based Company C, 2nd Battalion, 285th Aviation Regiment, would deploy to the National Capital Region (NCR) area of operations late in 2020.

On May 27, a shooting occurred in Grand Forks, N.D. that took the life of Officer Cody Holte of the Grand Forks Police Department. Officer Holte was also a First Lieutenant in the North Dakota National Guard. Maj. Gen. Al Dohrmann, adjutant general and Brig. Gen. Leo Ryan, N.D. Army National Guard commander, released the following statements about Lt. Holte.

FARGO, N.D. — The North Dakota Air National Guard, known as the “Happy Hooligans”, recognized the organization’s top Airmen, during its 2019 Outstanding Airman of Year banquet, on March 7 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Fargo.

Airmen were nominated for the awards based on their military and civic service throughout 2019. Awards were presented for Unit Career Advisor of the Year, First Sergeant of the Year, Outstanding Airman of the Year, Outstanding Noncommissioned Officer of the Year and Outstanding Senior Noncommissioned Officer of the Year.

FARGO, N.D. — The 119th Wing, North Dakota Air National Guard, was formally presented their 21st Air Force Outstanding Unit Award (AFOUA) on March 7 in Fargo.

Brig. Gen. Todd Branden, North Dakota National Guard assistant adjutant general for air, presented the award to unit members and commended them for their exceptional service and mission accomplishment.

N.D. National Guard to Conduct Flood Response Exercise

BISMARCK, N.D. - Members of the North Dakota National Guard will conduct a flood response exercise at Fraine Barracks in Bismarck on Friday, March 6. The National Guard regularly conducts emergency response exercise scenarios to validate and refine statewide plans and capabilities.

About 80 Soldiers and Airmen from the Guard's Domestic Operations Section will work from the organization's Joint Operations Center (JOC) exercising command and control for military response resources during the hypothetical flood response. The JOC serves as a nexus for information sharing, as well as personnel and equipment tracking, during a domestic emergency.

The North Dakota National Guard will conduct flood response training on Feb. 13 at the Jamestown Civic Center in Jamestown. This Rehearsal of Concept exercise, or ROC, serves as a mechanism to refine and validate flood response plans in order to maintain a high level of readiness.

BISMARCK, N.D. — The North Dakota National Guard’s 81st Civil Support Team (CST) will welcome a new commander on Thursday, Jan. 23 at the National Guard headquarters at Fraine Barracks in Bismarck. The change of command ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. in building 400 and the public and media are invited.

Lt. Col. Pat R. Flanagan will assume duties from Lt. Col. Lila L. Teunissen who has commanded the unit since July 2017. Teunissen is scheduled to retire soon after 29 years of service with the U.S. Army and the North Dakota National Guard.
