FARGO, N.D. — Teresa Luthi McDonough was recently promoted to colonel at the Air National Guard base in Fargo where she has served since 1989. As a member of the Happy Hooligans, she commands the 119th Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Group (ISRG) within the 119th Wing.

 

McDonough graduated from Ulen-Hitterdal High School, Ulen, Minn., in 1989, and enlisted in N.D. Air National Guard’s 119th Services Flight that same year. She was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in 1998 and became the 119th Services Flight commander in 2001 and the 119th Security Forces commander in 2004. In 2010, she was assigned to Joint Force Headquarters in Bismarck as the military personnel management officer. In 2011, she assumed duties as the 119th Wing’s executive officer before taking command of the 176th Intelligence Squadron in 2013. In 2018, she assumed command of the ISRG.

 

She deployed to Iraq in 2006 where she served in the personal security coordination center, U.S. Embassy, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. She was activated in support of Operation Inherent Resolve (ISIS) as the Air National Guard Liaison to the 363rd Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance Group at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia. These efforts earned her the Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, and other decorations.

 

McDonough received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Valley City State University, Valley City, N.D., in 1994. She completed her Master of Science, Strategic Leadership, from the University of Mary, Fargo in 2014. She is a graduate of Air War College, McGhee Tyson Air National Guard, Knoxville, Tenn. and the Reserve Component National Security Course, National Defense University, Ft. McNair, Washington, D.C.

 

She resides in Moorhead, Minn. with her husband Bert, and step-son Landen.
